Elective Course 

ART APPRECIATION (ANN11)

This art class will introduce students to the world of art. Students will be introduced to art terminology, different types of media, various artists and their artwork, and time periods. Students will learn to express themselves through their artwork. They will be forced to ask questions such as: What is art? By the end of this course students will hopefully choose to take other classes the school has to offer.  2 credits, Full Year, NO PREREQUISITE

 

CARTOONING (AZN11)

Cartooning is a true American art form and has greatly advanced in popularity in recent years. Students will develop proficiency in cartooning and animation, and research the role of cartooning in culture, history, politics, entertainment, public service, etc.  2 credits, Full Year

 

MIXED MEDIA (AYN11)

If you have not participated in an art class before because you thought you could not draw, then this class could be for you. Find and explore your creativity in the mixed media art class. Mixed media is the combination of many art forms and materials mixed together. Explore sculpture, painting, collage, drawing, architecture, urban park design and new technologies in art. Learn how to display, write, and look at your artwork. Learn from professional artists that make art today as well as master artists from the past. Express yourself in this challenging class while you have fun in an engaging learning experience.  2 credits, Full Year, Prerequisite – Art Appreciation

 

ADVANCED PLACEMENT ART HISTORY (AHN11X)

Advanced Placement Art History engages students at the same level as an introductory college art history course. Such a course involves critical thinking so students will develop an understanding and knowledge of diverse historical and cultural contexts of architecture, sculpture, painting and other media.  Advanced Placement Art History follows the College Board curriculum.2 credits, Full Year, Prerequisite – Art Appreciation AND Mr. Giella’s Approval
